I'm a MSVC fanboy so I really don't test MinGW that much and when I do I use the NUWEN distro, even though it's a year old.

James

I really like Nuwen but my current favorite is LLVM-MinGW.

LLVM-MinGW is the latest LLVM wrapped so the CLang compilers and other tools can be used with GCC/MinGW command syntax instead of CLang syntax which is different from GCC.

The error and warnings of LLVM-MinGW are way ahead of MSVC.

MSVC has really improved in speed in the last few upgrades. Compiling BCX source is 20% faster using MSVC rather than any of the others.

Nuwen has many other tools and libraries which is nice. Send Stephan an EMail asking for a new version. He is very accomodating. Email address on this page

Anyone using (familar with) this distro?
https://winlibs.com/

I have an older version
"winlibs personal build version gcc-12.1.0-mingw-w64msvcrt-10.0.0-r1"
but had not used it in ages. It seems to work just fine.
They certainly have versions for any matter of taste.

Hi James:

I used it for a while but the downloads got infected with Wacatac variants, which was discussed by the Belgian Winlibs coder Brecht Sanders in various forums. His last plea, I.I.R.C., was "Is there anyway to detect this before it gets installed ?". No replies.

RANT ...

Don't believe the "false positives" spiel. In my opinion Wacatac and friends are a state-sponsored but, mainly, in most circumstances, non-destructive spyware. It would be illegal for YOU to expose the perpetrators. And, of course, it would be bad form for any citizen of a "Five Eyes" nation to make such an exposure. However, the way things have been going, "Five Eyes" may be reduced to "One Eye".

My latest problem is "DefenseEvasion". All that Microsoft can tell me is that I got it.
When I get infected, it pops up when I compile BEd.
I have to reflash the bios and reinstall the operating system to get rid of it. Annoying? You betcha!
Yet another product from Black Lotus Labs ?
