StandAlone MinGW-64 Available again.
« on: March 28, 2021, 03:44:42 PM »
MinGW-64 has not provided a standalone executable since 2018 and has no intention of doing so again, according to MinGW-64 developer, NightStrike, who says that,

Quote
"Maintaining the build bot wasn't trivial, many of our slave providers disappeared, and react OS no longer provides the server for us."

Now, Brecht Sanders has filled this gap with standalone builds of the latest MinGW-64 for Windows, available in various flavors at his website

http://winlibs.com/

LLVM-Clang is included in some of the packages. Check them out.

I checked this out many months ago and decided to pass on it.

The thing that turns me off is that I need to install 2 versions, in order to compile 32 bit and 64 bit.

Each version comes in 2 flavors:

Win32 - i686 - Windows 32-bit version, runs natively on and compiles for Windows 32-bit (also runs on Windows 64-bit, but in 32-bit mode)
Win64 - x86_64 - Windows 64-bit version, runs natively on and compiles for Windows 64-bit (will not run on Windows 32-bit)

the only thing I don't like about the winlibs distribution is that it uses libwinpthread instead of native Win32 threads
there's a personal build of gcc-10.2 https://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw-w64/files/Toolchains%20targetting%20Win32/Personal%20Builds/ray_linn/ and https://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw-w64/files/Toolchains%20targetting%20Win64/Personal%20Builds/ray_linn/
also Equation Solution has recent gcc toolchains http://www.equation.com/servlet/equation.cmd?fa=fortran

JB -- thanks for the links.

I installed the 64-bit distro from www.equation.com after checking w/ VirusTotal.com.

It's a simple self-installer executable ( I would have preferred a zip file ) but no issues encountered.

The 64-bit version compiled BCX as 32-bit and 64-bit using my existing batch files.  Happy about that!

UPDATE:

I've been using the bleeding edge builds from www.equation.com for testing BCX for two months now
without any obvious issues.  The latest stable is 11.1 and the lastest experimental is 12.x

The equation.com domain is currently registered until 2027 and the person or persons associated seem to be
interested in parallel computing, electrical and structural engineering.  If you're looking for current Mingw
32/64 development tools, I think the folk(s) at www.equation.com are doing a fine job and I've told them so.
